The 2nd International Summer School in Refugee Law and Rights and 6th school in general, took place between 19-28th of August, at Department for Christian Social Work, CMTF. The school was organized with the support of the International Relations Office of UP under the Life Long Learning Scheme but enables the participants (who wish so) to access 12 ECTS upon the complementary examination. All the information about the school and the program can be found here refugees.upol.cz
The diversity of the school and the experience of the 31 participants from 17 different countries across the globe, has been the crucial ingredient of the success of this year's school. They took time from their busy humanitarian schedules to join us from all parts of the world, including Japan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iraq, Costa Rica, Rwanda, Ethiopia, US and most of the European countries, to learn from and contribute to this wonderful exchange experience.
Since the foundation of the schools in 2012 with late prof. Barbara Harrell-Bond (founder of the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, each one of the schools has been a special celebration of commitment to the humanitarian cause and empowered each one of us, professors and instructors, in our pursuit of refugee advocacy and work. The composition of people that this school has been able to bring together this year too has been a strong reaffirmation of positive life values and common strengths we have in each other when we make a choice to come together in protecting human lives.
The participants have rated the school 9,8 out of 10 as a top score for the program, quality of teaching, general contents, organization, and career relevance. Despite very intense 10-days program, they made use of every moment together, exchanging life experiences and contact networks for the future careers in the humanitarian sector. They also had a great fun going out every night, enjoying Olomouc life, but coming back to classes every morning at 9 sharp. Great commitment, creativity and productivity that inspires!
