Rocco Buttiglione (* 1948) is an Italian politician and philosopher, a close friend of John Paul II, known for his presentation and interpretation of Wojtyla's thought (Il pensiero di Karol Wojtyla, 1982). He has recently contributed significantly to the debate around the papal encyclical Amoris Laetitia (Risposte amichevoli and i critici di Amoris Laetitia, 2017) and currently lectures on the cultural and intellectual background of the teaching and work of Pope Francis.
