The Department of Systematic Theology of CMTF UP invites the academic community of Palacký University to two lectures by Roman Fihas, Th.D., from the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, namely:

The Liturgical Eschatology of P. Alexander Schmemann

(March 6, 2023, 11:30 a.m., Room UN-U09 in the CMTF UP building, Univerzitní 22)

The Ecumenical Situation in Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian War

(March 9, 2023, 8:00 am, Room UN-KSV in the CMTF UP building, Univerzitní 22).

Annotation, 1st lecture:

Prof. Alexander Schmemann was one of the most important figures of Orthodox exile theology in the 20th century. The place of theological knowledge for him was primarily the liturgy, in which God reveals his mystery and his intention with creation. This lecture will focus on the liturgical dimension of the theological doctrine of the last things of man and the world, eschatology.

Annotation, 2nd lecture:

Years ago, John Paul II called Ukraine a "laboratory of ecumenism" because it is the place where the different traditions of the Christian West and East have met for centuries. For a year now, the life of the people of this country has been dramatically affected by the military conflict with Russia. This lecture will try to show how this painful reality is reflected in the relations between Christians of different churches.

Roman Fihas, Th.D., is a professor at the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.

Lectures will be given in English.
