The Sts Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology at Palacký University organised a supervision workshop led by Robin Shohet and Joan Wilmot, two of the UK's leading experts in supervision. Both instructors are based at the London-based Centre for Supervision and Team Development (CSTD), a renowned institution specialising in supervision and teamwork education and development. The course was attended by around twenty participants, primarily therapists. They were introduced to the Core module, which forms part of the basic supervision training programme. The interactive course included a number of practical exercises and feedback sessions in small groups. The workshop took place from 7 to 9 April 2026 as part of the lifelong learning programme at the CMTF UP building on Kateřinská Street in Olomouc.

"The workshop was designed as an experiential learning experience, with an emphasis on creating a safe and supportive learning environment. The diverse composition of participants — in terms of professional background, experience and specialisation — contributed to an enriching dynamic that allowed for the questioning of established assumptions and the development of new perspectives,” said course director prof. Peter Tavel.

The programme included training in contract negotiation, taking into account all stakeholders and the broader system. It also covered developing listening skills at various levels, working with future scenarios and reflecting on them within a broader context.

The training was based on insights from psychology, psychotherapy, group dynamics, intersubjectivity, appreciative inquiry and systems thinking. The instructors emphasised the connection between theory and practice, as well as the development of reflection on one’s own professional role. At the heart of the training was the Seven-Eyed Model, which is outlined in the books In Love with Supervision (Shohet & Shohet, 2020) and Supervision in the Helping Professions (Hawkins, McMahon & Shohet, 5th edition). The latter has been translated into eight languages, including Czech, and has sold over 100,000 copies, attesting to its significant impact on the field.

During the workshop, prof. Peter Tavel (Director of the Olomouc University Social Health Institute at CMTF UP) and Dr. Zdeněk Meier agreed with the two experts on further cooperation, with the aim of gradually adopting CSTD’s expertise and applying it to the development of their own supervision courses.

INFO:

Robin Shohet has over 50 years' experience in supervision. In his latest book, In Love with Supervision: Creating Transformative Conversations, which he co-authored with Joan Wilmot, he summarises their collaborative work since the late 1970 s. Shohet views supervision as a deeply transformative and spiritual practice, integrating work on themes of love and fear, exploration of core beliefs, development of awareness and use of an appreciative approach.
