Palacký University Olomouc usually presents the František Palacký Prize to selected individuals at a public ceremony held once every two years, in recognition of outstanding creative achievements in the fields of science or culture that contribute to the prestige of the Czech Republic and Palacký University Olomouc. The award was first presented on 14 June 1998 to mark the 200th anniversary of František Palacký’s birth.
Any student or member of staff at Palacký University may submit a nomination for the award. The nomination must include a brief justification. Please send nominations by email to prorektor.veda@upol.cz by 15 October 2026 at the latest.
Candidates for the award should be prominent Czech or foreign figures from any scientific discipline or any field of cultural activity. In 2025, Professor Jaroslav Peprník, a leading Czech expert in the field of English and American studies, received the award.
The relevant university committee and the Scholarly Board of Palacký University in Olomouc will then deliberate on the selection of the candidate. The final decision rests with the Rector of UP. The award comes with a cash prize, to which the municipality of Hodslavice – the birthplace of František Palacký – and the town of Neratovice – where he lived and which is also his final resting place – have been contributing on a long-term basis.
